7 Foods That Support Gum Health

7 Foods That Support Gum Health

One easy way to support gum health is to have a diet of healthy foods that provide plenty of nutrients, and build strong and healthy teeth and gums. Here are 7 foods you can eat that support gum health.

1. Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Fresh fruits and vegetables that are crunchy and full of fiber can help keep teeth clean and healthy, and lower the risk of plaque build up. Chewing delicious crunchy vegetables can actually help keep your teeth cleaner and support gum health.

2. Milk, Yogurt, Dairy

Foods high in calcium are obviously healthy for your teeth, but did you know they also help with other facets of oral hygiene? Yogurt helps encourage healthy bacteria in the body, which is another thing that may help prevent cavities.

3. Water

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps keep teeth clean and healthy as it washes away food particles regularly. Preventing the build up of plaque this way is an important way to support gum health.

4. Sugar Free Gum

Sugar Free Gum is a great way to freshen your breath and keep your teeth clean between meals. Be sure it is indeed sugar free.

5. Tea

Rich in polyphenols, tea can help to prevent the bacteria that encourage plaque to grow, making cavities less likely to form, and reducing risk of inflammation of the softer mouth tissues.

6. Nuts

Nuts like Almonds are low in sugar, high in fiber and minerals like calcium that help encourage healthy teeth and gums.

7. Whole Grains

Whole grains are one food that can promote gum health and reduce the risk of periodontal disease.

Call our Arvada Dental Office to make an appointment with a dentist who may be able to help you find out more about this topic, and improve your oral health.
