Advantages of CEREC restorations

Onlays & Inlays - Aesthetic, durable alternatives to fillings

CEramic REconstruction (CEREC) is the latest in cutting-edge technology for the design and fabrication of dental crowns. Dr. Tom Niemi designs, mills and places a beautiful, precisely fitted crown in one visit, and often in only one hour.

Using the highest quality materials, Dr. Niemi can create the crowns in-house while you wait. You do not have to come back for another visit or wear an uncomfortable temporary crown, as is usually the case. These crowns are very strong, natural looking and can quickly improve your smile.

"The CEREC technology allows me to give a much higher-quality restoration. I can fabricate it the way I want it to be rather than the way the lab wants it." – Dr. Niemi

Designing your new crown

The first step is to take digital impressions of your tooth or teeth. These are sent to our CEREC system where Dr. Niemi designs your crown in 3-D.

Creating the crown

The crown is milled out of a block of high-grade porcelain using our in-house CEREC lab.

CEREC porcelain has many advantages. The porcelain itself is very durable and has a very natural, translucent look. Milling the crown out of one block helps prevent fractures as well as allowing for all-porcelain crowns. The CEREC porcelain expands and contracts like natural teeth.

Placing the crown

Once the production of the crown is complete, it will be fitted to your mouth, ensuring it is comfortable and matches perfectly. It is then bonded onto your existing tooth. Any adjustments are done right away in-house, including any shading changes or shape modifications.

This entire process can take as little as one hour per tooth.

Patient Testimonial

CEREC One-Visit Crowns in Denver, CO - Tom Niemi, DDS, Arvada

"I got a CEREC crown with Dr. Niemi. While other dental offices put a temporary cap on and the patient needs several appointments, I had one appointment and watched my crown being made. It was an easy experience getting a crown put on!

"Dr. Niemi always has the latest technology and oral hygiene information available. He is a professional in everything he does."

Advantages of CEREC restorations

CEREC One-Visit Crowns in Denver, CO - Tom Niemi, DDS, Arvada

CEREC restorations give your smile a natural look and act similarly to your natural teeth.

Natural-looking - CEREC restorations are milled from a single block of high-quality porcelain, one of the most aesthetic and durable porcelains that is very similar to tooth material in properties and look. Ceramic blocks come in 17 shades, which makes color matching more precise and natural-looking.

Natural-feeling - Your CEREC restoration is smoothly polished and fitted exactly to your bite.

Natural-acting - CEREC restorations expand in the same way as teeth do, and also because it comes from a single block, a CEREC restoration is less prone to cracks and flaws than other types of restoration.

Strong and durable - Studies show that CEREC restorations last at least as long as metal-filled crowns, if not longer.

Fewer injections and less anesthetic - CEREC restorations can be created in minutes and you don't have to come back for a second appointment. This means less anesthetic for you and fewer injections to keep the area numb.

Faster recovery time with less tooth irritation - CEREC restorations require less invasive preparation, and the restoration is placed immediately, protecting the tooth and pulp.

Less chance for errors or variation during fabrication - With CEREC, a precise 3D scan is sent to the milling machine leaving little to no room for error. Plus, the CEREC lab is on-site, so any needed adjustments can be made immediately.

Metal-Free and biocompatible - CEREC restorations are made from bio-compatible material meaning that they are designed to work with the body in a healthy way. There is no metal, so you don't have to worry about allergies to metal or the black lines that form around the gum line from metal crowns.

An aesthetic, durable alternative to fillings and crowns

CEREC Inlays and Onlays are types of restoration used to repair a broken-down tooth or replace an existing large filling. They are very durable restorations that last longer than a filling and can be used instead of a crown when the tooth is not severely broken down.

Inlays are designed for tooth damage affecting the indented portion of the top of the tooth.

Onlays are for more extensive damage. They are used when the damage is not severe enough to require a full-coverage crown.

The CEREC system allows us to create beautiful tooth-colored restorations for both front and back teeth that match the color and appearance of the rest of your teeth. It creates the same translucence, color and brilliance as that of your natural healthy teeth and they x-ray just like enamel.
